Lisztomania: Seven Unabashedly Loud Foo Fighters Songs

Because everybody loves lists...
Two days ago, Foo Fighters released their seventh studio album, Wasting Light. Unfortunately, most of the record finds Dave Grohl and co. retreading familiar FM-rock ground. C'est la Foo Fighters.

While the band's been in a creative nosedive since One by One dropped in '02, Grohl occasionally rallies the troops to ditch the Tom Petty-safeness, put on some Sambas and crank the tube amps to 11. Wasting Light's "White Limo" is the album's black swan (the Lemmy-starring video is equally awesome) and a reminder that the band can do something different, loud and good when it wants to.

That Death From Above 1979 Reunion Really Happening

Back in January when the Coachella '11 lineup was announced, Death From Above 1979 were mysteriously listed. Mysterious because the drum & bass duo broke up in 2006. Since then, there's been official blog posts and at least a little fanfare (this is the internet, right?), but no real proofs.

Well, Jesse F. Keeler and Sebastien Grainger posted a grainy rehearsal video last night showing the dudes still got it. Colour me excited. Even when the band skidded too far into the dance spectrum of their dance-punk schtick, they were always as loud as possible, one thing my '04 Honda Accord and passerbys surely appreciated back in high school.

Cults Play Daytrotter Session, Still Sound Pretty Cool

For those with fingers far removed from the pulse, Cults are a hip Brooklyn duo who released a 7" a couple months back and have since set the blogosphere on fire with their vintage-pop gems.

Just like Tennis, the couple recently traveled to Daytrotter to record live takes of their tiny catalogue -- they played three of their four songs. And yes, the "new" tracks are worth a download; The tunes sound more fleshed out and full than their recorded counterparts.
