Teen Inc. (Barely) Rename Themselves, Drop a New Song

Way, way back in 2010, there was this Prince-inspired band I blogged about named Teen Inc. Then, they only had a mere 7" to their name, though that 7" was admittedly rad. Well, more than a year later, the L.A. duo have renamed themselves "Inc." and let out the first track off their forthcoming EP, 3.

The good news: "Swear" is as strong, if not stronger than their previous single, keeping all the keytars, wonky bass and Paula Abdul drum beats in place, while refining their Purple One influences.

Ford & Lopatin (aka Games) Release New, Synthy Track

When Games officially changed their name to Ford & Lopatin, I was a little skeptical. After all, the duo released my favourite EP of 2010 and I was worried they might stop pumping out the synthesizer jams.

Not only is the band more Google-freindly, they're still producing the hits. "Emergency Room" is the new single off the band's debut LP, Channel Pressure. The sound's all over the place, like some sort of '90s Nickelodeon, Kenny Loggins, breakfast cereal, Doogie Howser, and Weird Science frankenstein.

Diamond Rings to Release Album Made of Candy

A little more than a year ago, Toronto's Diamond Rings put out the last great pop-song of (that) summer. The track, "All Yr Songs," proved that the glammy-scenester knew his way around pop hooks and kitschy 90s romance. When I got my hands on his upcoming LP, Special Affections, I poured myself a bowl of marshmallows, slapped on some bracelets, and relived the Zach Morris/Kelly Kapowski/AC Slater love triangle. The bubble-gum record hits every synthesized, romantic mark and makes you wanna live-out a photo-booth montage.

Look for the debut album come October 26th on Secret City Records.
