The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

Last night, I drove down from Kalamazoo to Pontiac to see recent blog-darlings The Pains of Being Pure at Heart play to a crowd of under fifty.

The show was great. Armed with reverb, capos, open chords, and melancholy, the band excellently executed their shoegaze-infused, My Bloody Valentine-inspired brand of pop music.

I also got to hang out with members of the band. Frontman Kip Berman was cool enough to dedicate the encore to yours truly, and keyboardist Peggy Wang even added some spectacular specular artwork to my vinyl when signing it.

Here are four tracks from the Brooklyn four piece's stellar self-titled debut LP, all dripping with the syrupy pop that exemplifies the band's sound.
