The Monday Mixtape: For Sam & West

Some old tunes, some new tunes, all good tunes, most Mondays...
While I normally just let the songs do the talking, this mix requires a special shout-out. My longtime friend, Sam, and her newborn son, West, requested a specially-curated Monday Mixtape. It's hard enough to make a playlist for a baby--I'm inclinded to just post this--but to impress an infant and his hip mom? Even more difficult. It's October, It's Autumn and It's Time For Another Mixtape

The weather lately has been a little bizarre. September reared its ugly head and Brooklyn got all sorts of chilly, then just a few days ago, it's 80° in the city. Now, my short-wearing will likely extend into November (Michigan blood), but that won't stop the leaves from turning or my appetite for pumpkin pie and football from spiraling out of control. Below is a collection of songs I threw together for the season-changing occasion, but don't expect any jubilant bangers--this October mix is a more somber affair...

MP3: New Real Estate - "It's Real"

Even though it wasn't as hot in Brooklyn today, I was blaring this new Real Estate jam non-stop, which makes sense, since this easy-rocker would be apropos thunderstorms or sunshine.

The New Jersey suburbanites have a new record due out this October and "It's Real" is Days very first single. And man, it's about time; the last release from these prolific bros was last year's Out of Tune / Reservoir #3 7".

Real Estate Ironically in Tune on "Out of Tune"

Oops, almost forgot to post "Out of Tune," this near-perfect new single from Real Estate. Featuring Oneohtrix Point Never (who seems to be everywhere these days) on synths, the jam sounds like the curtain dropping on summer; perfect timing.
